“Igor Losik explained the reason for his hunger strike and addressed the Belarusians.”
“I began a hunger strike because I am left with no other opportunity to influence the unfounded accusations and my wrongful detention. I am unjustly deprived of my freedom and the opportunity to see my family.
I have already spent six months in prison, charged with an absurd crime, to commit which I would have to use a teleport. I had and still have an alibi, but the investigation has been ignoring this for six months.
I’ve missed a lot over the past six months. The most hurtful thing is that I didn’t hear my daughter’s first words.
6 months later, I was charged with another absurd accusation — preparation for participation in mass riots. How is it possible, if there were no mentions of any “mass riots” at all before my arrest? How is it possible, if it was unknown how the candidate registration would end at the time? According to the investigation version, it is possible. Apparently, from their point of view, I can predict the future, or I have a time machine.
Also, In my entire life I have never participated in any “unauthorized” mass event, especially a mass riot. How is it possible to take part in a mass riot when you have to look after a one-year-old daughter?
That is why, after having thought it all over well, having weighed all the pros and cons, I decided to take such an extreme measure to try to achieve justice.
I am aware that following the announcement of my hungerstrike, they can start bringing pressure on me. They can transfer me to a solitary cell or a punishment cell, deprive me of my personal staff, letters, newspapers, or communication with my lawyer. I am aware that I may have serious health problems or even die. For the sake of justice, for the sake of the opportunity to hug my daughter again, I am ready to go all the way. I still believe in a shred of conscience left in those people, who control the investigation of these trumped-up charges.
I hope for the support of all concerned Belarusians.
I am pleading for the support of all international organizations, ambassadors of the European Union countries in the Republic of Belarus, governments of democratic states, — in drawing attention to the existing howling injustice and restoring my rights as well as the rights of hundreds of other political prisoners.
Please help the innocent return home. Our family, just like the families of other prisoners of conscience, has already suffered enough lately.
I will not stop the hungerstrike until all the criminal charges against me are dropped or the measure of restraint against me is changed.”
